From Pig’s Snout to Tregonna King, Cornwall is home to an array of apple varieties of inspired nomenclature

The Great Taste Awards are the Oscars of the fine-food business, and a 3 Star Great Taste Award is about the highest accolade a product can get.
Each year tens of thousands of products are judged, and only a tiny fraction (a couple of hundred or so) are given the highest award - the coveted 3 Stars.
So for a small, craft manufacturer like us to have won not one, but TWO 3 Star awards is really something. We’re quite chuffed.
Our flagship Artisan Malt Vinegar was the first product we made. By now it has a great string of awards to its name – and it now has the accolade of 3 Stars.
One of our newest products has also picked up 3 Stars. In 2025 we launched a range of vinegar-based probiotic ‘Shrub’ cordials, and Artisan Raspberry Shrub was awarded 3 Stars.
(And as the cherries on the cake, Artisan Blackberry Shrub was awarded 2 Stars, and Artisan Strawberry Shrub 1 Star.)

What do sorbet, sherbet, and syrup have in common? They are all words that come to use from the old Arabic ‘sarab’ (’drink’) via medieval Latin. One more such word is shrub.
