What do sorbet, sherbet, and syrup have in common? They are all words that come to use from the old Arabic ‘sarab’ (’drink’) via medieval Latin. One more such word is shrub.

Shrub is a drink with a long history - it's the sort of thing you'll find people drinking in Jane Austen novels!
A Shrub is a vinegar-based fruit drink. Over the years we discovered that a number of our customers were buying our fruit vinegars in order to make them into drinks. So it seemed sensible for us to offer those products ourselves.
We make 4 varieties of Shrub - apple, raspberry, blackberry and strawberry. In each case we take some of our artisan fruit vinegar, and blend it with pure fruit juice and sugar.
How do you use them? Traditionally Shrubs were used in fruit punches, or as mixers with spirits. Since all of our vinegars are live, the Shrubs can be used as a probiotic 'tonic' drink - either straight, or mixed with still or sparkling water. Or used as a refreshing cordial.
Since launching the range in early 2025 they have been garlanded with awards.
The Apple Shrub won a 2025 Veggie Award
The three berry Shrubs all won awards at the 2025 Great Taste Awards. Strawberry won 1 Star. Blackberry won a 2 Star Award - which was fantastic. But our Artisan Raspberry Shrub won a 3 Star award - reserved for the very best of the best.
